Macclesfield Boys ABC travelled to the very prestigious Moat House Hotel in Hanley to compete on the bill for a sell out dinner show with no other than Stokes own Chris Edwards, British super-flyweight champion sat in the audience in what is a fantastic venue, with only one boxer on the bill Ollie Collins hoping to redeem himself after the premature stoppage in his last bout in Blackpool.
Collins was to box S McGrath from Droitwich ABC in Birmingham a strong stocky fellow from the bell the Birmingham lad set about showing his strength coming forward like a bull at gate very much like Collins last opponent but this time Collins didn’t rest on his loral’s and set about responding to the onslaught with crisp straight shots all three’s and four’s hitting the target every time, this resulted in the first eight count for the Birmingham lad, they came together again and the ref was forced to intervene again and another eight count was given, after this the Droitwich lad wasn’t in it and the ref ended the bout shortly after and the decision was given to Collins at the end of the first round, Collins having learnt from his loss the week before was more than happy with his performance as were the coaches, a great night of boxing for the crowd in an excellent venue. Again thanks to all those who came and supported the lads.
