Macclesfield had three boxers on the programme for a night of amateur boxing in the West Lancs division at Crewe Alexandra football club in front of no other than Mr John H Stracey former world welterweight champion and what a great night for Macclesfield it turned out to be.
1st up was G.Parish a 13yr old schoolboy 53kg contest over 3 by 1and half minute rounds, having already boxed before Parish was to face a local lad by the name A Varey from Crewe ABC with huge support from family and friends, this was an evenly matched bout with both kids giving a great performance for the crowd but Parish seemed to just have the edge and took the decision from the West Lancs judges.
2nd up was Ollie Collins against a North Wales opponent J Moore’s from Shutton ABC who was a strong kid with a 2kg weight advantage a very strong southpaw boxer who was there to win, straight from the off he came forward throwing straight left punches from the back hand, again Collins wasn’t weighting around a took the fight to him both giving it their all, Moore’s began to tire and received a warning for using his head as he pushed in the again he was warned for answering the ref back this was frustrating for both boxers as Collins was clearly edging the win the ref shouted break and Moore’s proceeded to land two or three punches after Collins stepped back having no option the ref disqualified the north Wales lad giving Collins victory.
3rd up was Macclesfield very own Heavyweight Sam Bradbury in what was to be a thriller as his opponent Nick Harvey from Crewe ABC seemed to have the whole crowd on his side, this only resulted in spurring Bradbury on and he proceeded to out box the local lad Harvey, although Harvey was very strong and hungry to win in front of the home crowd, a bit shorter and stockier than Bradbury he threw some big bombs that did connect at times, but Bradbury took them on the chin and kept to the game plan trying not to get drawn in to a toe to toe bout, this proofed to be the right way forward good strong counter shots and crisp straight lead jabs connecting every time, at the end of the third round Harvey raised his hand believing he had done enough this wasn’t the case and Bradbury was awarded the decision much to the crowds discontent as the fell silent as the Macc lads hand was raised a good win and it seemed that the crowd had enjoyed it through out the course of the bout even though they might not of been happy with end result.
